248 bankruptcies filed in April, more enterprises open in Q1

A total of 248 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in April 2023, which is 76 more than in the corresponding period one year earlier, according to Statistics Finland.

The number of staff-years in enterprises that filed for bankruptcy totalled 821, which is 126 staff-years more than in April 2022.

The 12-month moving annual change in instigated bankruptcy proceedings was 22 per cent in April 2023.

The number of instigated bankruptcy proceedings was lowest in the industry of agriculture, forestry and fishery. Only seven bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in the industry.

Most bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in the industries of construction and other service activities.

In the industry of other service activities, 66 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated, and in construction 63 bankruptcies.

A total of 246 bankruptcy proceedings were instigated in March 2023.

Meanwhile, a total of 13,954 new enterprises were registered during the first quarter of 2023. Compared to the corresponding period of the year before, the number of registrations went up by four per cent.

Of the registered enterprises 5,237 were limited companies and 8,577 were natural persons.

During the first quarter of 2023, five per cent fewer limited companies were registered than in the corresponding period of the year before.

The number of natural persons registered company was nine per cent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
