Five people were killed and another of a same family sustained burn wounds in a fire at an apartment building at Hakunila area in Vantaa early Sunday morning, police said in a press release.
The fire broke out about 3:20 am on the ground floor of the apartment where the six-member immigrant background family was living.
Responding to an alarm, rescue service people and police rushed to the spot and recovered five people with serious burn injuries. But all of them succumbed to the wounds on the spot immediately.
Local media reported that father of the family survived the incident and was undergoing treatment in a hospital with burn injuries.
Police, however, did not divulge the detail identity of the deceased.
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
Police and rescue service people are investigating into the incident to find out the origin of the fire.
