Finland’s cereal stocks stand at 387m kilos at end of June

Industrial and commercial stocks of cereals in Finland totalled about 387 million kilos at the end of June 2023, said the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) in a press release on Friday.

The cereals included 93 million kilos of wheat, 49 million kilos of rye, 96 million kilos of barley and 149 million kilos of oats. About 22 million kilos of rapeseed and canola, 10 million kilos of peas, just under 5 million kilos of broad beans and 14 million kilos of corn were in storage.

A total of 1.3 billion kilograms of foreign and domestic cereals were used in the industry. Organic cereals accounted for about 53 million kilograms of this total, or about 4%.

The majority (44%) of the cereals were used for animal feed, while about one third was used for food. In food use, organic accounted for about 10%.

In addition to cereals, the industry used protein and oilseeds, including some 32 million kilos of peas, 7 million kilos of broad beans, 47 million kilos of maize and 42 million kilos of soya.

The industry and grain brokers bought a total of just over 1.6 billion kilos of cereals from farms, including 417 million kilos of wheat, 526 million kilos of barley, 638 million kilos of oats and 65 million kilos of rye.

In addition, the industry bought some 39 million kilos of rapeseed and colza, just over 42 million kilos of peas and some 7 million kilos of broad beans.
