President Sauli Niinistö and Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen on Wednesday criticized the attack on the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist Hospital in the Palestinian enclave of Gaza on Tuesday.
The Finnish leaders also demanded investigation into the violation of the International humanitarian law through such heinous acts.
“The news of the attack on Al Ahli Arab hospital is terrible. Attacks on civilians are reprehensible. International humanitarian law must be respected in all circumstances and its violations must be investigated,” Niinistö wrote in his twitter in Finnish.
The Foreign Minister in her twitter post also expressed at the deaths of hundreds of civilians.
“I am deeply saddened by the strike on the Al-Ahli hospital. The loss of hundreds of civilian lives adds to the horror and suffering we have witnessed in the past days in the Middle East. These acts against humanitarian law need to be carefully investigated,” Valtonen wrote.
At least 471 Palestinians were killed in a blast on the hospital. Gaza's health ministry said the airstrike was carried out by Israel while the Israeli military said the Islamic Jihad organization is responsible for the "failed shooting" that targeted Israel.
