Finland assumed the presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) on Saturday for the next one year term, said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a press release.
Finland took over the presidency from Germany.
The cross-cutting themes of the presidency will be comprehensive security, crisis preparedness and resilience.
Finland aims to strengthen the CBSS's activities both in terms of the Council’s role as a platform for political discussion and in terms of practical cooperation.
During the presidency, special focus will be given to the strengths of the CBSS while also addressing the impact of serious crises to our region. Therefore, security-related issues will be emphasized.
Established in 1992, CBSS is an intergovernmental organisation for cooperation between the states in the Baltic Sea Region.
The members of the Council are the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, Germany, Poland and the European Union.
The Foreign Ministers of the CBSS Member States meet annually at the invitation of the Presidency.
