Outgoing Prime Minister Sanna Marin and her husband Markus Räikkönen on Wednesday revealed that they decided to divorce each other.
They made the announcement of divorce on Instagram separately through posting a picture of themselves.
In a joint statement on Instagram Marin and Räikkönen, however, said that they would remain best friends and would spend time together as a family with their daughter.
Urging to respect their privacy, the Prime Minister couple said that they would not make any more comment in this regard.
Marin, also the Chair of the Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) and Räikkönen, a businessman and former footballer of Tampere based club Tampereen Pallo-Veikot (TPV) have been in relation for the last 19 years. They married in August, 2020.
Earlier on April 5, Marin announced that she would not continue as the Chairperson of the SDP after the next party council scheduled for September.
Marin became the Prime Minister of Finland in December 2019.
