President Sauli Niinistö on Sunday awarded 39 mothers with First Class Order of the White Rose with Gold Cross for their significant contributions to parenting, particularly for their merits as educators.
The mothers got the award at a ceremony in Helsinki marking marking the Mother's Day in Helsinki jointly organised by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Health, said the President Office in press release.
The recipients of the award included this year single mothers, foster and adoptive mothers as well as mothers of children with special needs from different parts of the country.
Discussions, cultural performances were also held on the occasion.
Finland has been awarding Mother's Day medal with the White Roses since 1946.
