Man killed in mental rehab centre violence in Nokia, suspect held

An inmate of a mental health rehabilitation centre housing unit was killed allegedly by another inmate of the centre in Nokia, a municipality in southwestern Finland on Sunday morning, police said.

The murder took place at about 6:45 am inside the centre following a violence between the inmates.

The victim is a 37-year-old man.

Responding to an alarm from an employee of the rehab centre, patrol police rushed to the spot and found the man dead.

Police recovered the body with several marks of injuries at different places. Police informed the victim's relatives about the incident.

Following the incident police conducted extensive search at the locality and arrested the suspect within a span of 15 minutes of the murder.

The suspect is a 29-year-old man.

Police, however, did not divulge the detail identities of the of the victim and suspect and the motive of the killing at the initial stage of the investigation.

“The police got a very clear idea about the incident. The investigation will continue through interrogating the suspect and others who know about the matter,” said the head of the investigation Markku Laakso in a press release.
