Flight operation to and from Kuusamo Airport will remain suspended from July 17 to August 15 due to renovation work, said country´s airports operator Finavia in a press release on Wednesday.
Finavia will replace the runway lighting system and resurface the apron and taxiway.
“By developing the airport’s infrastructure, we can ensure safe and smooth traffic, which also supports the Christmas and winter travel that is important for tourism in Kuusamo. We are investing a significant amount, a total of EUR 2.5 million, in the renovation of Kuusamo Airport,” said Jonna Pietilä, Vice-President of Finavia’s Lapland airports.
Nearly EUR 2 million of the total investment will be used for replacing the runway lighting system. The existing runway lights will be replaced with energy-efficient LED technology.
The renovation work in the summer will also include resurfacing part of the apron and the entire taxiway.
The terminal will also be closed during that period. During the break in flights, Rovaniemi, Kemi-Tornio and Oulu airports will serve the residents and tourists of the Kuusamo region.
