A total of 2.32 million overnight stays were recorded in August 2023, of which 1.71 million were overnight stays by resident tourists, according to Statistics Finland.
The total number of overnight stays was on level with the year before. The number of overnight stays by resident tourists decreased by three per cent compared to August 2022 and that of overnight stays by non-resident tourists increased by eight per cent.
In relative terms, overnight stays increased most in August 2023 in Päijät-Häme, where the number of overnight stays grew by 17 per cent from the year before.
Over one-half of overnight stays by foreign tourists were recorded in Uusimaa, where their number grew by 10 per cent from the previous year.
The highest numbers of foreign visitors came from Germany, Sweden and the United States.
The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 58 per cent, which is on level with August 2022.
The average price of a hotel room was EUR 114, which is on level with one year earlier. The average price was highest in Kymenlaakso, EUR 126.
