Berlin and Kiev plan to seal their new city partnership on Thursday, when Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner will receive his Kiev counterpart Vitali Klitschko in the German capital, the Berlin Senate Chancellery announced on Monday, reported dpa.
Berlin's governing Christian Democrats (CDU) and Social Democrats (SPD) had already agreed in principle to twinning with Kiev during their coalition negotiations.
The parliamentary groups of both parties then advanced the issue in the House of Representatives.
Tel Aviv is also to become a new twin city.
Klitschko had written to Wegner in May to ask about the possibility of a partnership. The SPD says it sees this as a gesture of solidarity with Ukraine.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia's full-scale invasion since February 2022.
