Netherlands takes 1st mixed relay gold at ISU WC Speed Skating

The International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup Speed Skating concluded in Obihiro, Japan, on Sunday, with the Netherlands securing the gold medal in the inaugural mixed gender relay event, reported Xinhua.

The Dutch team took the first World Cup gold in the event, recording a time of two minutes and 55.53 seconds. Poland captured the silver, while the United States earned the bronze.

During the men's 5,000m event, Dutch skater Patrick Roest took the limelight, as he clinched the gold with a track record time of six minutes and 10.99 seconds.

In the women's 3,000m, Norway's Ragne Wiklund also displayed her exceptional skill, setting a track record of four minutes and 1.88 seconds to take the gold. She was followed by Japan's Momoka Horikawa and Dutch Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong.

After placing second in the first race on Friday, Japanese Wataru Morishige won the men's 500m on Sunday afternoon in 34.64 seconds. The host nation took four of the top five positions, with American Jordan Stolz placing third to deny Japan a complete sweeping.

The next stage of the ISU World Cup is set to take place in Beijing from November 17 to 19.
