Swimming in the water of Siikajärvi beach is not risky anymore as no bacteria indicative of fecal contamination was detected there, said the City of Espoo in a press release on Monday.
Environmental Health Services investigated into the possible link between stomach flu outbreak and Siikajärvi beach and observed that the quality of swimming water is good and there is no need to avoid bathing anymore.
A sample from the swimming water was taken on Thursday, which did not contain any bacteria indicative of fecal contamination.
It is possible that the contamination was local and transient. Epidemics spread on beaches, especially when the beach is crowded, and swimmers stay in the water for long periods of time, the press release added.
