The Vihreä liitto (Finnish Green League) on Saturday elected Sofia Virta as its new chairperson at the party convention held in Seinäjoki.
A total of 2,760 councilors out of total 4,731 cast votes in favour of Virta while her opponent Saara Hyrkkö bagged 1,941 votes in the election.
About 58.6 percent of the total councilors cast their votes in the elections.
Virta expressed her gratitude to the party leaders and activists for electing her as the Chair of the party.
"I am grateful for the trust I earned from the party people,” she said, adding that she would work together with the party leaders to attract more Finns to build a safer and more sustainable world in future.
Virta replaced Maria Ohisalo, who was elected party Chairperson in June 2019.
Earlier in April this year, Ohisalo announced that she would not continue as the party chief following debacle of Vihreä liitto in the last parliamentary election.
