Elderly woman burnt to death in Rantasalmi housefire

An elderly woman was burnt to death in a fire broke out in a detached house at Rantasalmi, a municipality in South Savo region on Monday morning, police said.

Responding to an alarm before the noon, Rescue Services personnel and police rushed to the spot and found smoke coming out from the house.

When they tried to defuse the smoke, the fire broke out again during the rescue operation and started to burn the house.

Later the Rescue Service people brought the fire under control.

The elderly woman, resident of the house died in the fire and the firefighters recovered the body from the debris.

The police, however, did not divulge the identity of the deceased.

The reason behind the fire could not be known but police did not suspect any link of crime to the incident.

Police and rescue service people are investigating into the incident to find out the origin of the fire.
