National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has started investigation into alleged war crimes committed in Ukraine, said NBI in a press release on Friday.

The investigation concerns acts allegedly constituting criminal offences committed against Ukrainian soldiers in Eastern Ukraine prior to the present war.

The NBI started a preliminary investigation into Voislav Torden, a suspected mercenary with the neo-Nazi Rusich group in Ukraine, reported National broadcaster Yle.

Torden is suspected of capturing or injuring Ukrainian soldiers in eastern Ukraine before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Finnish Border Guard arrested him in the summer after he arrived in Finland and later tried to leave using a fake passport.

According to Finnish court ruling, the Russian citizen cannot be extradited to Ukraine for human rights ground.
