Finland condoles at India train crash victims

President Sauli Niinistö and Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto on Saturday expressed condolence at the deaths of scores of people in the train accident in India.

The President sent a letter to his Indian counterpart Droupadi Murmu to express his condolence for the accident.

“President Niinisto has sent a letter to the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, to express his deepest condolences for the tragic train accident in Odisha,” said the President Office in a twitter post.

Haavisto also expressed condolences to all the victims of the accident, said the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in a twitter post.

“We are deeply saddened about the tragic train accident and loss of life that took place in Odisha state, India. Our heartfelt condolences to all those affected. Finland stands with India during these difficult times,” said the ministry in the twitter post, quoting Haavisto as saying.

At least 288 people were killed, and 803 others injured in a major accident on Friday evening involving three trains in the eastern Indian state of Odisha.
