Finland lose to USA in Ice Hockey WC opener

Defending champion Finland on Friday lost to USA at their home ground in Tampere in the opening match of the Ice Hockey World Championship 2023.

Although Teemu Hartikainen scored the first goal in the match at the 18th minute at Nokia Arena and took lead for Finland, the continuous scores by USA players in the second and third period forced the Lions to consume the huge defeat by four goals to one.

Cutter Gauthier leveled the score at the 34th minutes followed by Drew O'Connor and double scores by Alex Tuch brought the big victory for the USA.

Finland will face Germany in their next match on Saturday while USA will play with Hungary on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in three other matches on the opening day, Sweden beat Germany by a solitary goal at Nokia Arena while Canada beat host Latvia by 6-0 and Czech Republic beat Slovakia by 3-2 at Arena Riga.
