The Helsinki Police Department will increase its presence to monitor public order and safety of sites subject to frequent criminal activities and disturbances from November 13 to December 3, 2023, said an official press release on Monday.

The sites have been selected based on the police’s own information and feedback received from stakeholders.

The surveillance operations will be planned and implemented in cooperation with Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (Helsingin seudun liikenne – HSL), Metropolitan Area Transport Ltd, national railway operator VR and Helsinki’s youth work operations.

“Increased police presence decreases disturbances and increases the sense of security. Police activities will focus on public transport, junctions of public transport and meeting places favoured by the young. The police’s increased presence will mainly take place in the evenings and at the weekends,” said Chief Inspector of Helsinki Police Hanna Kiiskinen.

The output of the intensified monitoring will be reported at the end of the control campaign.
